We were there late tonight to buy cigarettes and use the restroom. We pulled up at the back entrance which is apparently closed from 10pm-5am, and were waiting on the phone to charge up so we could use the digital Marlboro coupon once inside the store.nnThere was a clerk dumping trash, and one at the door watching for safety, I'm sure. We realized the back door sign said it was locked so we pulled around to the front of the building. We walked inside after about 5 minutes total time sitting in the car outside the back and front of the building.nnI asked the clerk, who was one of three that were there, for the cigarettes, and pulled the coupon up on my phone. She hesitated and started to act like she couldn't use it which I knew wasn't correct as this store was first in the list of stores that accept the digital coupon. She rings the cigarettes up, I give her the money, my boyfriend goes back out to get the exact change, he comes back in and gives the clerk the change. She gives me the change from the amount owed and I go to use the restroom.nnAs I'm walking to the restroom, a police officer enters and asks if anyone called 911. I tell him no and go to use the restroom. When I came out of the restroom an officer meets me and asks what we're doing tonight, he wants to know where we're from, who we're visiting in Maize, he wants to see my license, and has my boyfriend stopped and is also questioning him.nnAt this point, we'd done nothing wrong except that my boyfriend is black and I'm white and we were at the store in the early hours of the morning and had mistakenly pulled up out back when the door is locked at night.nnWe have been into this store multiple times and even know one of the clerks who works during the day. Now at this point, I'm very confused as to what is going on.nnThe officers finally tell us that the younger, overweight, female clerk, who was watching us when we pulled up out back had called 911 in fear that we were going to rob them. Now nothing about our actions, words, or behavior warranted the assumption that we were there to rob this store. I have no criminal record whatsoever and neither does my boyfriend so being accused of this actually offended us both.nnWe spent money as soon as we came in, had no weapons on us, weren't trying to conceal our identities, weren't loud or unruly, weren't dressed like the stereotypical criminal, or any other indicators that said we were there to commit a felony crime.nnAfter 45 minutes of being detained outside the front of the store and the police officers running my boyfriend's name on every check they could run it on, taking my license information, tag information, asking the same questions repeatedly, and shining their flashlights in every window of my vehicle without permission, as if they were trying to find a reason to arrest us or search my vehicle; we were finally allowed to leave.nnAt no time did the clerk who called or any of the other employees speak up and admit that maybe they were wrong or tell the officers that they lied about how long we were outside the back of the store or that she saw us plug the cellphone into the charger and start a conversation with one another while we waited on the phone to power on. I have never been so humiliated, embarrassed, or violated by an employee of a store in my life.nnI will never spend money at this store, again. Probably at all Kwik Shops, if truth be told.nnI hope that the corporate headquarters sees this, goes and looks at the security video, and reprimands her for being so quick to assume that paying customers are criminals without any proof. The employee who called 911 should be trained better if she is going to work at night because she's obviously scared very easily and probably would be more suited for the day shift or a different career altogether.nnShe also needs to be trained in the laws regarding racial profiling, civil rights, and discrimination. Just because you see a black man and a white woman together in the middle of the night doesn't mean they're doing anything illegal.
