Brooks Brothers

I have been shopping at Brooks Brothers for over 30 years. The Manhasset store is where I shop most of the time. They are welcoming and lovely to deal with.nI have been staying in Westport, CT and recently had occasion to walk into the Westport Store. I was looking for nothing special, without the aid of a salesperson, which I thought was quite strange for Brooks Brothers and their great service. I picked out a sweater to purchase and paid cash for it. It seemed as though I was purchasing it in Marshall’s. After I paid cash for the sweater ($118) the only comment to me was to ask me if wanted a bag, whichnI thought was a ridiculous question at a BB Store.nAfter taking the sweater home, I decided to return it. As soon as I walked in a an associate saw I was returning something, from his attitude I knew I was going to have a problem. I was told they return cash up to $100. This item was $118 and I was told (in an unwelcoming way) that I would have to wait 10 business days to receive a check as a refund. I told him that was ridiculous and told him I was sure he had the authority to issue a cash refund for $18 over their policy. He didn’t answer me and just told me I would have to wait two weeks for my refund then preceded to get the written policy and place it in my hand.nI told gum I’ve never been treated so poorly at a BB Store and told him I would take it to another BB Store. He could care less.nI then went to the BB in Darien and walked in with the return and treated as a BB customer should be. The gentleman at the counter was all smiles and welcoming. He told me the policy was to give a cash refund tip to $100, but for an additional $18 it would be no problem and I shouldn’t have to wait 2 weeks to receive a refund. That is the way in which I am used to being treated at Brooks Brothers. I will continuenTo shop at any Brooks Brothers other than Westport. I guess if you’re not from Westport, don’t be expected to be treated well at the Westport store.nThis was not about a refund or money. One more thing: In Darien, the sales associate was dressed impeccably in a navy pin stripe suit which was perfectly tailored, along with a glen plaid navy and grey tie and BB cap-toe shoes. In Westport the sales associate was dressed in a creased grey suit and drab tie (not BB attire).nThe service and and experience between the two stores was stark.

About a week or two ago I had a negative experience with the staff in Brooks Brothers and complained about it. The head store manager Matthew contacted me personally and invited me to come back to the store. Upon my arrival he was incredibly professional, respectful, and kind. I have a lot of respect for Matthew, he showed me that he was not only passionate about his job but cared a great deal about his business. Matthew today earned my family and I back as customers and I look forward to seeing him in store in the future.

I bought several items including a suit. My hat is off to Eric who was extremely helpful and knowledgable but not at all pushy. I normally have a hard time finding my size and so I'm still amazed by how Eric was able to find the right sized suit and shirt without taking a single measurement.

You're way better off getting their stuff online when it goes on sale. But sometimes you need nice pants at the last minute, and you can go here and pay through the nose to do so. The staff was really helpful, though.
