I grew up nearby on Holyoke Dr. I believe you are the Lehner family who once lived on Allegheny Dr? During the 1980's you allowed me to access this property and the park behind it for bowhunting. At any rate, I've been in the tree and horticulture business since 1985, and I recall the tree. As the leaves high in the canopy photo show, this tree is a tulip poplar, Liriodendron tulipifera. Fortunately, these are well-represented by a lot of large examples in our state, but this one is worthy of nomination and measuring on the PA Big Trees website. I encourage you to do so! Chances are, I'll be the one sent out for official measurements using a hypsometer (for height), and tapes for the trunk dimensions and canopy spread. That will determine total score and allow it to be ranked.
Looks like Hickory by the bark, can you post a pic of the leaf? I live on the other side of the lake. Maybe I'll walk there with the wife and see
We think this is a White Oak, but are not 100% certain. It has a circumference / girth of 180-186 in. It could be one of the biggest of its kind in Penna.
