Absolutely gorgeous place to ride your bike or take a walk! There's a lot of shade on this trial also. There is a large Iron Bridge, a long tunnel with interesting graffiti, and five or six wood bridges, which are all safe to cross. There are areas where you can go down to the creek and swim. The trail is paved the entire way and it's the smoothest Trail I've ever been on. It is quite level both ways. The first time I went on it I easily went 16 miles without even feeling effort. It's quite a distance from where I live but I still drive there a few times a week because of the beauty of the trail!

Absolutely breathtaking view of the Allegheny River! We drive up from Butler at least twice a month to get our fix. So relaxing and serene.

From this access point you can go in several directions on the Allegheny River, and there are trails on both banks of the river. A trail also goes along East Sandy Creek. To access the river trail on the eastern shore from the Sandy Creek trail and the bridge, you have to descend a sturdy but rustic stairway. An adjacent ramp helps to walk your bike down the stairs. TIP- use the hand brakes on your bike to help control the descent! And remember if you take your bike down, you have to be able to bring it back up, too! When I visited, there was a porta-john on the western shore at the parking lot.

Bridge and tunnel are fun for children and easy to reach from midpoint parking.
