Cow Run Shelters

Tenters are treated like second class citizens even though they pay same as shelter sites. No level spots. Website to get a one night backpacking sites charges more to make the reservation then the permit cost for each night. Don't be fooled by the so called $4 permit fee. Not sure why there is a permit fee in the first place. God made this land not the state. This is just another tax on top of the taxes we already are forced to pay. 3 stars because I do appreciate volunteers that work on the trails.

These shelters are amazing. Perfect for winter camping/backpacking. You can make a loop and use Cow Run/Wolfkiel for a two night trip. The cut wood is fantastic and the shelters are nicely kept.nnThe area is beautiful and diverse with tons of streams and water features. Love Oil Creek!

Sweet camping shelters with fire place, public bathrooms (no running water), drinking water, and firewood provided.

Amazing Adirondack style shelters along the oil Creek trail. There is plenty of ready firewood to keep you warm through the night. I think the cow run shelters are in a prettier area than the other shelters on the other side of the trail. There is also potable water, but not during winter. Although there are plenty of streams just a few minutes away if you need water in winter.

2/14/20 5° or colder. Had a great time. Beautiful views. Came very prepared. Those temps are not for the novice. We were the only ones there.
