We spent last weekend camping at Leonard Harrison state park in a very tidy, quiet site. The restrooms were extremely clean, perhaps the cleanest campground bathrooms I have ever experienced. The hike options while limited were challenging and offered spectacular views. The sunset over the gorge was beautiful and so serene. All of the employees we encountered were polite, helpful and courteous, except one. We were camping with our adult son and his girlfriend and sitting around the campfire on our first evening there, enjoying conversation and some discrete adult beverages in our yeti cups. The armed nighttime ranger entered our site and without so much as returning our pleasantries informed us that we were breaking the rule regarding alcohol consumption and she therefor had to confiscate it. We offered to stow our drinks, she refused. We offered to dump it out, again she refused which made me think she was taking it for her own personal consumption. She took two bottles of wine, each with just one glass gone and an almost full bottle of gin that was tucked away in a bag in our picnic table. We were not being rowdy in the least bit. We were talking quietly when she entered our site after she must have been spying on us from the road. I have never encountered a ranger with such poor people skills. She was shining her light directly in my husbands eyes as if to interrogate and intimidate him and when he asked her to stop she denied she was doing that. She made me feel like a criminal. I understand park rules (not laws) on alcohol but also understand those rules exist in the case that there Is actually a problem. I have been camping in state parks all over the country for the better part of 50 years and have never experienced a ranger that was so unprofessional and downright rude. I recommend this campground but hide your wine and not from the raccoons! She is the only reason I’m giving one star, otherwise it would be 5 stars!
A short walk from parking to the edge of the canyon. An absolutely breathtaking view!
There is one place you should go see and not regret. Pennsylvania Grand Canyon!!
Very nice facility. It has a lot of information to offer to those interested in learning more about the area.
Really lovely. Small campground, but modern facilities!
