Wow. This is the first time visiting and it lived up to what so many others have have mentioned about it. I think they really did a great job at capturing the essence of a memorial. The design and landscaping are quiet incredible. Knowing this location looked vastly different when they finished mining it, almost like a scarred and barren area versus the look today with the memorial. If you are able to, I really encourage you to take the walking path from the upper area to the lower area. it is about a 2 mile loop from the top to the bottom and back up to the parking area, but worth the time.nIt had to be one of the quietest memorials I have ever visited. You could almost feel the respect and reflection taking place. I say this even though the parking lot overflowed into parking in the grass. I never once had the feeling someone was trying to push past me to see something. it was such a powerful and emotionally impactful experience. If you have not been here, it is worth checking out. This helps us all remember the sacrifices made that day and since then. The Wind chimes were especially moving. Again very tasteful and respectful tribute to those heroes that died on that fateful day.
One of the more thoughtful and well built monuments I have seen. Everything was kept simple, with well thought out displays and with wide open spaces. Park rangers were present to explain the design ideas behind the structures and why things were placed the way they are.nnThe surrounding area is very scenic, with sweeping landscapes. The museum and exhibit area have many interesting items, which tie the site to the 9-11 timeline, and dive a little into the lives of the plane crash victims.
Beautiful memorial! Very peaceful and quiet. Busier than expected and long wait to enter visitors center due to Covid, but worth the wait. Rangers were very nice and able to answer questions about the tragedy that occurred here. As a National Parks Passport geek I appreciated the Ranger who took her time stamping my passport, as this is something I usually do myself but was unable due to Covid. Overall a great day trip from Pittsburgh. I'll definitely visit again, hopefully next time it will be windy enough to hear sounds at the Tower of Voices.
Would have been Five Stars except:nnFrom the overlook, we returned and went into the Visitors Center. Very impressive and detailed displays - something for everyone. Timelines, photos, human interest stories. Very interesting and worthwhile.nnA sidebar downer.... We entered the Center with almost no one inside and were taking it all in at a pleasant pace. About halfway through, the manager(?) started rushing people and turning off displays to get people to move through more quickly. This is not a display you want to rush - he should have held people at the entry to allow pacing and Social Distancing.nnDo this site. It's different, but peaceful and rewarding.
Outstanding memorial! Where United Airlines Flight 93 was forced down by heroes trying to fight the terrorists to take over the plane on September 11, 2001. The memorial was just great to honor those heroes on that flight. There is a big boulder where the flight made impact with the ground. It is still expanding with the number of memorials to honor those brave men and women. The inside building museum has lots of information about the horrific day of September 11, 2001. Make sure to bring tissues because you will need them. May the passengers and crew of United Airlines Flight 93 Rest In Peace along with all the other victims of September 11, 2001. And the attackers will suffer in hell.
