Nice 'off the beaten path' type trail. Small parking area means less people hiking it at once. Only a few areas were hard to follow the trail/blazes and had to backtrack a little bit to get back on. Beautiful scenery and trees. Follows a ridge above a creek. I would consider it a moderate hike, with some elevation and rocky trail.
Still a great place to take a nice hike. Unfortunately, it is also a reminder of what humans can do,intentionally or not, by introducing alien species. The wolly adelgid has destroyed most of the massive, ancient Eastern Hemlocks here.
I came here with my kids for the trees and discovered so much more. Yes the huge hemlock are impressive, but your kids will really love the tunnel hike. My eight year old wanted to come back the next day and spend even more time.
Great place for a day trip picnic and hike
The trail is very rocky, slippery, and requires navigating over/under some large downed trees. The scenery and atmosphere are incredible making the challenge well worth it.
