Very great location to watch trains pass at speed if you're willing to wait some time! The rail line itself, the Norfolk Southern Lurgan Branch, has a fair amount of trains and you'll be able to see manifest and intermodal trains. There are two tracks, a passing siding and the mainline. The yard is near the station (though out of view), so you'll see some trains slowing down to stop there. There is an ATCS monitor on a TV screen at the location that shows the positions of trains. My only complaint is that the ATCS Monitor was scrolled too high to see Greencastle itself and the surrounding tracks.
My little cousins love sitting and watching the trains go by here. We grab lunch/snacks and sit and relax. Nothing fancy, but a nice little place to enjoy some time
Great historical site in the middle of a small town with rich history. With recent efforts to restore the facilities, the owner host various fundraisers and activities inside. Some youth organizations also meet here including the Scout Troop 99, the local 4H club, and Cub Scout groups.
Was a rainy experience, place was closed. But still interesting.
