This was a disappointing experience. The staff was rude(two of them). They do not allow you to really see the actual painting but for a brief moment. And when you are there they have all this distracting lighting that hides the painting and makes it difficult to see any of the details of the painting. In a painting such as this you really need to look at it for a couple of hours to fully grasp all the many hundreds or so events and individual stories in the painting.nnIf you are an art lover this is not a great place. Apparently the curator does not understand art or how the artist intended for his work to be displayed.nnShame because I have looked forward to seeing this thing in person for over 30 years, and now that I finally get to see it they have essentially covered up the masterpiece with all these stupid digital overlays. This is how good art is destroyed.
A MUST see when you are near Gettysburg. . Worth the drive.
Complete thumbs down! Not at all what it was when we visited in 2013. So sadly disappointed. Will not waste my money to return here again.
Hadn't seen this since I was a child. Huge difference!! It's so much more realistic than it used to be, with all the extra props between us and the painting. Seamless design between the ground that was added and the painting. Highlighting with different colored lights helped follow the narration easier. Thanks to a friend we had tickets given to us so I'm not even sure of the cost. Great artwork and wish we'd have been given more time just to absorb it all.
This painting was amazing and the museum was very well done and educational.
