The dock is still standing after the Hennessy Fire
Very peaceful place to bring the family. Great place for kayaking with its own boat launch. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the day. The boat launch is made for small crafts like a kayak or canoe. You can pull your car up and drop off your stuff and than park your car. It will cost you $8.00 for the day. It also has a rack to put it on to rinse it off before loading on your car. Really a nice set-up.
This is a review of the Campground, specifically the behavior of the campground host, Mike. Lake Solano is actually a great local place other than this person.nnSo I have lived in the area for the last two decades and have paddled the river for years.nnAs a member of a group of friends who are doctors and nurses, we are quite stressed during these times of covid and appreciate some nice calm time to decompress. So we were all looking forward to a nice, relaxing paddle after work.nnAnd that's exactly what we were doing as the sun passed over the hills and we turned around to paddle back to our cars.nnIt was then that we heard someone screaming from the bank. Worried that someone needed our help we inquired.nnInstead this unidentified man was screaming that he was going to call the police and it actually took a bit of time to clarify that he was going to call them on us! Despite years of paddling and no signs being posted at the put in, this man was claiming we were now officially paddling after hours and that this would, of course, require him to immediately call the police. To repeat: rather than simply inform us of his rules (which would have been fine), he began with the screaming, 'I'm calling the police!' angle.nnWe were polite, and asked who he was (it was only then that he identified himself as Mike the campground host). We than thanked him for the warning and paddled on.nnNo more came of this incident. The good news is about half the people didn't even hear about the incident until we were pulling out of the water, so they managed to maintain the good time we were having.nnHowever, I am writing to let others know about the personality of the campground host here. An avid camper, I know the campground host's personality can play a huge role in whether your hard earned vacation is fun, relaxed and enjoyable or a miserable experience. We had just stayed at a campground the week before with excellent hosts who were kind, thoughtful and reasonable - we appreciated it a lot.nnBluntly, our experience with Mike was terrible and he managed to make our already stressful lives a bit more stressful that evening. I would recommend you stay away from this place, unless you like having a rule bound bully scream at you that he's calling the police before even telling you why.
They open recently but they still haven't open the place to rent a kayak and the playground is close . Its a nice place, clean, a lot of shade and nice tables to eat. The only bad thing is that we were trying to see the lake more closely but there's really no space to see much of it now with this rules of personal distance, unless you have a kayak. Nice place to walk.
Lake Solano is at the south end of Lake Berryessa. There is a nice and clear campground is located on Pleasants Valley Rd on the left hand side. Its between Vacaville and Winters Ca. On the right hand side is the day use area. As far as I know that part of Lake Solano isn't open and was closed prior to Covid 19 due to lack of funding. It's a little ran down. It's a great place to fish and have a picnic or to just stop for a few to stretch your legs and let the kids play at the park. There are functioning restrooms near the bridge. The launch is not accessible. The water is quite low this year but you can still see the beavers that live there swimming around smacking their tail on the water. This is also the home of many peacocks. If you're lucky you might find a feather.
