The hiking trail is a well maintained, wide, gravel road on top of a levee overlooking a wildlife area in which there are ponds, trees, & wetlands. I saw 37 Mallard ducks, two Meadowlark’s, and two black Phoebe’s on my hike in late March. I plan to return in the winter in hopes of finding migratory and wintering waterfowl.
Love walking my dog out there & letting her run around. Its close to home. Only wish we could go down to the water too but it's all fenced in. Lots of ducks, geese & other birds, also frogs, lizards & snakes. Even coyotes, that usually just come out in the evenings/night. Occasionally see one in the day, out by the water (inside the fence), though they can get out onto the trail also. They won't bug you if you don't bug them. Almost a 2 mile walk around the whole trail. Great place to walk/jog, with or without your dog, or just bird watch. Best time to go there is in late winter early spring, though still great year round. Definitely recommend checking it out!
This is an open area that encircles a rain water run off storage area that services the southwest corner in the city of Dixon. It is easy walking distance from the Valley Glen subdivision. There is an elevated well groomed flat gravel road that goes around the pond that is just about 1.8 miles. There are a few picnic tables and a couple benches, no restroom. Great for walkers, joggers, and dog walkers. The pond is completely cyclone fenced off so no actual water access. AND depending on rainfall the pond can look like a huge lake or in drought like expansive grassland with a couple of small ponds. Especially nice in spring when the grasses are green. Wildlife frequently seen are ducks, geese, red winged blackbirds and birds of prey. Infrequently seen are coyote, opossum, skunks and snakes.
This place is absolutely beautiful picturesque and the designer went to Great Lengths to add foliage that ducks and other wildlife are attracted to. Great place to go for a walk jog or take your dog.
Beautiful walk, just discovered it! Wonderful place, bring your binoculars.
