Personal freedom started here for me, IDC what *anyone* has to say about Catholicism.nA good priest is better than a heavily-armed soldier any day.nPlease, if you don't agree keep your comments to yourself.nThis is Holy ground and should be treated as such.

The modern architecture is not to my taste—you can’t even tell it’s a church, much leas a Catholic church, until you’re at the door—but the bishop is orthodox, wise, and kind. And he believes!!!!

Since moving to Oakland 9 years ago, I have wanted to go inside this beautiful cathedral.nI recently had the opportunity to visit this church, while attending the enterrment services of my friends mother. The simplistic beauty of the interior was so profound as was the service, very moving. It was a welcoming and inclusive place. I have been looking for a church to attend, I believe I have found it. The location is on the banks of Lake Merritt, just could not get any more beautiful. I promised my friends sister who lives across the country, that when I did l would honour her mother's memory through prayer and place some posies outside her final resting place. I was honoured to be invited to attend the services and rewarded with finding a church to connect with God and the community, once again.

This building is absolutely beautiful, and definitely worth a visit. I'm not religious, but the folks here were friendly and welcoming - and not at all offended by the fact that I stepped in just to scope out the architecture. They do hold open services and musical events which are free to the public. If you're not a worshipper, I recommend visiting outside of service times, and taking a tour of this lovely, iconic space.
