$10 round trip (55 minutes), $8 one way. Tickets sell out early: recommend buying ticket (or trying to) the second you arrive in town, then explore and perhaps Nevada City. Because the only thing to do in Nevada City is the $12 admission museum (2 hours+-) I suggest you do the round trip with immediate return, then DRIVE to Nevada city. That way you won't be pressured to hurry through the museum to catch the train- or worse: you're done worth the museum but have 3 hours to kill with NOTHING to do. Train's maximum capacity is 32. During Covid-19, each party gets their own bench, 8 benches on the train, so theoretically 8 people traveling alone = a full train. Takes 18 minutes each way. 10 minute layover. Benches have awnings to protect (mostly) from sun/ rain. If you don't buy a round trip ticket, there is a level walking trail (fully exposed to the sun) between the road & railroad between the two towns (part on the road between the end of the gravel lot and kid's fishing pond). Ride is live-narrated both ways. Large free parking lot next to both train stations.
Gypse Road the train too. It was a great History lesson and a pleasant journey!!
Great train ride. They put plexiglass between the different seats. Lots of good info.
This little historic town was soooo friggin cool! Most definitely my favorite part was the train ride to Nevada City. Hubby and I panned for gold and got some really pretty garnet in a cute little vile for a souvenir. We got to vergina city at about 9 am. And walked through all of the different shops they had back then. I was very surprised with how much their is to look at. It was nice getting their a little early before all the other shops opened to really take our time looking at all the history. When 10 rolled around we got in line for the train which departed at 11. They were also a tad early in both the depot and the train. Rather than late. Which I liked alot as well. We had to get back to idaho falls before to late so we only had so much time. So we ate lunch at bobs pizza place. That place was very delicious and full of sweet helpful ladies! We will most definitely be back to enjoy longer and possibly do the ghost tour! Thanks for a wonderful time!
Very beautiful, and it feels like a real life train station. But, the train they run isn't a steam engine. It runs on a motor. Also, the train cars are too small to board from the platform. They do have a real steam engine but they never run it. Also, tickets are WAY to pricey.
