Nice lighthouse to kayak by! They offer tours once and a while. Nearly all light houses now are automated. The keeper generation is sadly gone.

The Esopus Meadows light house was built in 1871 to warn mariners of the mud flats known as the Esopus Meadows.nnAboard the Hudson River Cruise ship (Rip Van Winkle) we were able to get very close to this landmark which was very enjoyable. Reminded me of touring on the Rhine River in Germany and seeing all of the castles on Islands and shoreline cliffs.

One of the few lighthouses in the Hudson River. It's listed on the National Register of Historic Places. About twice a year they offer tours of the lighthouse. You can always boat or kayak round it.
