This is a beautiful area, especially if you just want to get deep into the woods and hear some peace and quiet. The mountain itself is not for the faint of heart. It's a serious hike, so come with adequate water for about 2-3 hours of continuous moderately strenuous exercise. I advise bringing bear spray, or otherwise carrying a defensive weapon. There are absolutely bears on this mountain.

Shhhh . . . Don't tell anybody about this fantastic hiking location. It's close to the city and offers a lot of variety in terms of difficulty. The Pretzel Tree trail is perfect for tiny hikers and features an interactive story book. You won't find the vistas of Tiger Mtn. or Mt. Si, but you also won't find the crowds that clog the trails at those locations. If you want a view skip the peaks and seek out Debbie's View. It offers a tiny outcrop where you can spy a stunning glimpse of Mt. Rainier. The woods between the West Peak and the Central Peak offer an otherworldly echo that is worth the extra distance and elevation.

The Mountainside Drive trailhead is only a 5 minute walk from my house. This is a great place to enjoy the mountains.
