Weiskopf Observatory

I came to watch the Perseids, and it was a lovely dark spot in comparison my Chicago neighborhood. Informative volunteers, too. My only suggestion is to ban parking facing the observatory, because the bright light burned my vision and required a while to adjust back to the night.

Great experience last night. They close about 3 hours after sunset, but if you go a little later I don’t think as many people are up there. May not be good for people with bad knees as you do have to climb steep stairs to get up to the observatory dome. There were two knowledgeable guides in the dome who were able to show us Mars, Saturn, the moon, and a planetary nebula before they had to close for the night. It was very cool to see and the best part was it was free.

The kids got to see the moon , it was extremely clear. They got a new telescope that makes it easier to view.
