Camping sites in the Oak Haven area are wooded allowing privacy and shade despite being fairly close to one another - but don't expect to see the lake! The three cabins in Oak Haven looked really cool with nice deck areas - almost wish we would have rented one. Facilities are well-kept. Biggest negative was a significant amount of road noise from nearby highway 71.
Really great park. Small, but cozy. Trails are great and the scenic overlook makes them all worth it. The playground was really nice for the kids. Lake was a little low. Bathrooms were dated but clean. Biking was tough with all the steep hills.
Stopped here on a whim and was kinda gobsmacked. Only $5 entrance fee even for night camping. We did not camp but the superb facilities did tempt us to. There is enough shade around each camping site, the restrooms and showers were super clean. From as low as $25-45, even sheltered campsites with electricity, water, fans etc. may be reserved.nnWe walked on one basic trail only but the park has biking/walking trails for different hardness levels.nnWe could not stop until sunset from 'Scenic Spot' 4-6 offer stunning view of neighboring farmlands, which must be more scenic at sunset.nnThere were also a handful of bluebonnets in front of the main office.
Great experience once in mini cabin. Very quiet and cool this time of year. Thank you to all volunteers and park hosts for making it so nice, especially one that helped #M003.
Beautiful little park a few minutes from smithville. Camped overnight, had water, electricity, and clean bathrooms. Trails were well maintained and even though rain and cold weather cut our getaway short, we had a wonderful night. Will definitely be back.
