Gladys Kitchen was delicious. We were visiting Jimmy Carter’s childhood home and my husband said he had a taste for some fried chicken. I looked and I came up with Gladys kitchen so we decided to give it a try. We knew we were on to something because there was a long line. If you are ever in Americus, please stop by you will not be disappointed. We had fried chicken, turnip greens, black eye peas, broccoli cheese casserole, and the butter roll. everything was delicious you will not be disappointed

3 years ago I gave it 5 stars. Returning for the first time since then it has drastically changed for the worst. Food portions although fairly good were incredibly small for a 15 dollar plate and they got our orders wrong. Will not be going back here.

Found this place while on a road trip with my son, and while I rarely write reviews, I feel I have to let the world know about Gladys’ Kitchen.nnWe arrived at 2 PM on a Sunday, and there was already a healthy line of about a dozen folks. This is a very good sign. Lots of elderly couples were here in their Sunday best. Another good sign. Anticipation was high.nnThere were three mains on the menu today: fried chicken, baked chicken, and BBQ ribs. Sides included collards, cornbread dressing, squash casserole, fried green tomatoes, rice, and a few others. The standard meat and two also comes with choice if cornbread muffin or a piece of flat cornbread. (This cornbread is a traditional hoecake, sometimes referred to as “poor man’s cornbread”.)nnDesserts includes a variety of cakes, peach cobbler, blackberry cobbler, and the new love of my life: butter roll. I’d heard tale of this buttery biscuit dessert, but what I’d heard did not do it justice. Think of a buttery, fluffy bread pudding with a light cream sauce. Unlike bread pudding, there’s no cinnamon. It’s heavenly.nnThey ran out of dressing before I got to the front of the line, so I had to go with squash casserole along with baked chicken, collards, hoecake, and sweet tea. While I can only imagine how tasty the dressing was, my disappointment only lasted to the moment I placed the first bite of the squash in my mouth. It was perfectly seasoned, and moist and delicious. The collards are the best I’ve ever tasted, too. (Sorry, Dad.) The chicken was perfectly cooked and seasoned as well, but honestly I could have made a meal of the collards and squash, and then rolled over and died a happy man.nnThe service was excellent and the people very friendly.nnIf you come within 45 minutes of this place (and you will if you drive anywhere on I-75 in this part of Georgia), do yourself a favor, and check it out.
