Love coming here for hikes! You can go up via the trail or the paved road to get to the top. The trail gets narrow at times and there's some spots with lots of rocks, so you have to watch your step for sure. Def not a jogging trail!nThe main parking lot is always packed, but there's another down the main road, on the left.nPeople are generally friendly and will give a head nod or wave in passing. When I'm alone, I don't tend to wear a mask, but if I'm with a friend, we both will wear one. There's no rule or anything though.nSome who bring their dogs don't pick up after them [you know who you are!], but most do, and they're always on a leash.nThere's a welcome center at the base [I've never gone inside] as well as a few picnic tables under a big gazebo type wooden structure.nOh, and great views from the walk up and once you've got to the top! I posted some pics from diff days.
$5 parking fee!
Great place to go for a walk or a hike. There are several picnic areas and many trails. The view from the top is awesome ! Make sure and use some bug repellant and bring water with you - you will need both ! Parking on popular times can be tough in the main lot, but there are several parking lots close by all run by the Park Service, so just look around. There is also a space set aside for a dog park.
I did a trail run over here which was great because there are some routes that aren’t too steep to run up. It’s close to big roads but it doesn’t feel like it when you’re on the trail.
Amazing piece of history! Park was very well maintained and I loved that there are plaques that give detailed information about the Confederate and union soldiers. Wonderful visit
