I've been a regular at crossfit gyms in Tulsa, Oklahoma City (x2), Reno and the SF Bay Area and visited gyms in Malibu and Tokyo, and I can attest that Crossfit Initiative is one of the best. Positive atmosphere, solid training, dedicated members, an area for your kids to play while you work out, and an owner that's constantly pushing to improve the equipment and programming. Love it.
I was never an athletic person growing up, and spent most of my 20s and 30s sitting on the couch, drinking beer and playing video games. So when I finally made a change in my life and decided to get fit, I was nervous about finding the right path for me. Should I join a regular gym? Do I need a personal trainer? What kind of work out should I be doing, considering I've never worked out before?nnAll of those fears disappeared when I discovered CFI. The entire staff is friendly and inclusive, incredibly knowledgeable, and feel more like family than staff. The new facility is great, with plenty of space and equipment, an automated kiosk to get supplements and supplies, and a kids room with video games and TV. There are class times throughout the day, even at lunch time.nnThere are lots of rumors about Crossfit in general, that it is easy to get injured, that the exercises are unusual, that it is a cult. Nothing could be further from the truth. Crossfit teaches you cross-functional movements, and let's you scale according to your skill level. The coaches have an expert eye on what you can and cannot do, and will never push you beyond your capabilities. Every class is coached, with the workout posted on the board. All you need to decide is how hard you want to push yourself that day.nnAfter only two years of going to CFI, I am stronger than I have ever been, and look better than I did throughout my 20s and 30s. I cannot recommend this gym more, and if you are serious about wanting to make a positive change in your life, this is the place to start.
I have found that CFI is the place for me. I have not worked out since approximately 2004 until I found CFI a couple months ago. The location is great and workouts are able to be scaled to my level of performance. I have been extremely impressed with the level of involvement the coaches/staff have with all members; it has made me feel comfortable and welcome since day 1. Being a combat veteran (Iraq/OIF 2003) I don’t usually go places where I have to be around people, however, I have found an unusual level of comfort when I am at CFI; I believe this to be caused by the members and staff 100%. I look forward to years of enjoying CrossFit at CFI. I recommend anyone to give CFI a chance to show you how fun, comfortable, and easy they can make it for you to get on the WOD train!
I only went there for a few months and had to stop due to scheduling issues but great instructors and a great gym location
Great gym and programming
