Jerry Hallert is one of the owners of Komainu and I have nothing but great things to say about him. He is a student of the art, approaches his training and teaching with intent and passion and is just an all around great guy. He is a competitor and understands both the athlete mindset of wanting to push yourself to excel but also the importance of overall wellness. The qualities of the owner carry into the qualities of the gym and I strongly recommend both Jerry and Komainu BJJ to anyone looking to learn or advance their skill in this art!
My kids have been going here almost 3 years now and they love it. Coach Adam is great with the kids. He’s patient but also keeps them focused!

Great place to train. I trialed most BJJ/MMA gyms in Reno and picked this one.nSolid schedule, I mostly went to the night classes so didn't see the owner Jerry too much but he was a very nice guy and was very accommodating. Adam the guy who teaches the night classes is a great coach, very cerebral without being verbose, and you can tell he sincerely puts effort into his curriculum. Nice, chill atmosphere but people still putting work in. Will definitely drop in if I'm ever back in Reno.
