I have been to the Redlands location twice (The Wizard and The Temple), so far, and thoroughly enjoyed both times. Really a great workout for the brain but also engaging and entertaining, all at the same time.nnFirst time I went I was with several people and the second time with five. My recommendation to new players is: split off into small groups of two or three, it helps when you're comparing clues, with one other, to solve the puzzles, keeps the groups from congregating, too often, and allows each group to solve a puzzle, which saves you time, but at the same time, allowing the entire group to solve multiple puzzles simultaneously, and unlocking another clue, making a connection or key to escape!nnEscape Rooms are my new favorite addiction!
My group has played over 50 escape rooms and this was the worst experience we’ve had. I want to explain that we have spent hours after a room just chatting with the owners. We’ve been invited multiple times to beta test new rooms. We’ve had game masters dying of laughter because we always do and say the funniest things. We’ve even helped build new sets.nnWe had a first timer play with us. He jokingly said, “it’s time to start picking locks, guys!” We all laughed, but our game master yelled over the walkie talkie that we better not do such things or we will be responsible for damages. Awkward.nnWe moved along and again, she felt the need to yell about how hard one of us was tugging on a lock and threatened us with the bill of the lock if we break it. It was completely dramatic considering the person who tugged the lock had a neck injury and couldn’t lift more than 5lbs. I’ve personally been a game master. She needs to understand there are politer ways to convey your point.nnDuring our first gameplay, we continued to get the same kryptic riddle that wasn’t progressing us. After the 2nd use, you’d think we’d get a new clue. Nope. Needless to say, we didn’t beat this room.nnDuring our second game play, we thankfully had a new game master. She lifted our spirits, but we had the reverse problem with her. She kept shouting out clues without us asking. It’s a strange experience when you’re focusing on a puzzle and the walkie talkie is chatting away in the next room.nnThis time, we beat their room, but it was frustrating half way through when she stopped us to explain how to reset a lock because she forgot to explain it at the beginning. It ate up our time. At the end, we were staring at the final puzzle, believing we had the wrong combination because nothing happened. After half a minute the box finally popped open. I think the game masters need a lot more training.nnEverything tells you not to touch, don’t peel, don’t lift, don’t move and there are a lot of red herrings. There’s zero immersion here. I couldn’t tell you why I was locked in the cabin and if you asked me where I was stuck, I would have never guessed a cabin. I’ve played some bad rooms, but the game masters make up for it. Unfortunately, this was just bad all around.nnUPDATE: The owner contacted us and told us he watched the tapes of our game play. He apologized for the poor interaction we had with his GMs and offered us a refund or two game plays. This is what excellent ownership looks like. You see a problem and resolve it. We happily took the new game play. Thank you for trying to give us a better experience. We look forward to playing!
Fun place. Have done 3 of the rooms here and completed all of them within the hour time limit. Cabin in the woods is by far the best in my opinion, but it depends what you're into. Good times! And the staff here is amazing. Kat is awesome and Ash and Erica were also great! Will be coming back and going to their other location In the future.
My wife and I tried the Wizard themed escape room. It was surprisingly challenging and the spell casting component was really clever!
Staff is super friendly and the room ideas are super cool!
