On one fine late April morning, I was told that with less than a week to spare, I needed a completely different shirt for a wedding I was to be in, and in addition to that, needed an adjustment to the pants that I was to wear to it. Startled by this news, I immediately called Mr. Formal Wear approximately seven minutes before they closed, to be greeted by a courteous desk service that left me assured that my needs would be accommodated. The following day, I went in for shirt measurements and to drop off the pants in question...AND THEN IT GOT BETTER.nnI returned four days later (after receiving an unprompted call regarding my items and how picking them up could be fit into my schedule), to find that they indeed had the shirt I needed. No worries there. But the pants. The pants were missing!nnI left the shop and went about my day, assuming the pants were a total loss and that I would need to purchase a new pair. Less than an hour passed, and I received a phone call from what I was lead to believe was the warehouse rep for Mr. Formal Wear. I was politely and apologetically informed that due to what I now believe was a third party's mistake (unpreventable by the members of Mr. Formal Wear), a delivery man took my pants and sent them to the not-so-near city of Richmond, Virginia (bear in mind, this Mr. Formal Wear I visited is in Saratoga Springs, upstate New York). My pants were, in regards to the role they would play in the now rapidly approaching wedding, effectively removed from the equation. This news struck a heavy blow, and though I strive to unattach myself from material wealth, at that moment I became heartbroken.nnHowever, this phone call of tidings, this conversation of informing, it was not done! The gentleman on the other end went on to inform me that to compensate for this mishap (which again, I view as hardly their fault), he had a silk-wool suit of hardier caliber than my original that they would not only give me free of charge, but that he would HAND DELIVER THAT VERY NIGHT. My flight to the wedding location was leaving the following morning before they opened, and so with that knowledge in mind, he took time out of his day to bring me a NEW SUIT (with the shirt I originally put in for I might add), and by doing so, almost literally saved my ass. There was nothing I could have done at that point to rectify the situation from my end (again, that situation being my being pantsless), and I was at their mercy.nnBusinesses with an outstanding devotion to consumer-relations are unfortunately relatively few and far between, but in this instance, the lovely folks at Mr. Formal Wear shined as bright as anything I've seen before. The service business community would benefit immeasurably if more small business were to adopt a customer service model similar to what is currently employed by Mr. Formal Wear.nnAs long as I'm in the area, Mr. Formal Wear will be my go-to for all my tailoring and formal attire needs, and I'll be sure to provide my recommendation of this business at every opportunity.
