A nice trail through the woods and next to water. Lots of birds, some butterflies, and wildflowers. Can be a bit muddy right after a rain.

I hiked the Limekiln Springs Trail from the west access on Cache Chapel Road on a beautiful Thursday afternoon in mid-October. The slough was fairly dry, as were trail conditions. It was a fun hike - there are a lot of easy views of the cypress swamp, and I saw loads of white-tailed deer and waterfoul. No insects to worry about this late in the season. The trail is mostly flat, no steep sections.nnThere is a private property inholding pretty close to the west parking lot. Observe the landowner's wishes and stick to the trail in the refuge that goes around the inholding. The trail around the inholding is through some pretty upland forest, but otherwise there is not much to see in that segment.nnThe trail is an old jeep road that has been partially obscured. Although there are occasional trail markers, there are places where the trail gets less defined, typically in the middle segment and on the east side of the inholding. Falling leaves didn't help matters. For this reason, I don't think the trail is great for first-time hikers. However, the trail is better-defined closer to the parking areas.nnOverall, the Limekiln Springs trail is a great way to get up close to the northernmost cypress swamp in the western hemisphere.
