Laura Still took us on the Early Settlers tour. Great job. Laura fleshes out the historic events and characters so that you feel like you were there at the time. Great and colorful tales of the past based on her deep research. Thank You Laura. BTW the book, A Haunted History of Knoxville is a fun read.
Excellent walking tour of Old Gray Cemetery. I completely enjoyed Laura Still as the tour guide. Very knowledgeable. It's extremely interesting to learn facts about the early Knoxville citizens, about their life and about their death. So much of Knoxville's history lying in one spot. If you love history, you shouldn't miss this tour.
Really enjoyed the Shadow Side Ghost Tour. Took us to some great locations I otherwise wouldn't have seen as a tourist. I appreciated that the guide had a microphone so we could all hear her. Loved learning the history of the city with the ghost stories. I thought part of one story in particular was funny and was trying to share it with my mom later but I kept messing it up, forgetting parts, and having to go back to explain. I realized then how effortless our tour guide made storytelling seem and had even more respect for her skills.
My daughter's 5th grade class took the Civil War Walking Tour today and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience! Ms. Still was very engaging and her vivid descriptions painted a picture of how the area looked during the Civil War. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in local history, you will definitely enjoy the tour.
I strongly encourage anyone with an interest in the Civil War and especially those with an interest in Knoxville's role in the Civil War to consider taking this tour. The tour was interesting and informative. The guide almost spoke as if she were in Knoxville during the war, even though I know that could not have been possible. Her uncanny recall of specific names, the chronology of events and the places where these events occurred is simply amazing. Going up into the Sunsphere just pulled the whole experience together. The tour was worth every penny. I plan to take additional walking tours in the future. You cannot go wrong with this experience.
