Loved it. Lots of unimproved camping sites, room between campsites. Good price... I think I only paid $11, but I'm a senior. Good flat places to walk, if you like the Texas terrain. I was there in early March 2021, and it was cold at night, but pleasant during the day. Has that large lake for boaters ... the fisherman I talked to said crappies and catfish were what should be in there, but he wasn't catching anything! Quiet. Staff were very efficient and friendly.
We had an amazing time at the park. Our family celebrate my birthday and had our first family camping trip. Absolutely amazing camping trip. Memories for a lifetime. Even our teens want to go back and that says allot.
Loved this state park. Clean bathrooms, and 1 shower house, hot showers and very clean. Only had 1 shower house for 60+ sites. Could use more shower houses. Only negative.
This past weekend, stayed at campsite #63...nI can't say that I slept very well with the noise from the adjacent oil wells and military helicopters flying over head. The campsite was located at the end of the road, which I though would provide privacy but instead cars would drive up the road, (presumably to go to the restroom) and all night our campsite was illuminated by high-beam headlights...nnThe campsite and restroom was clean but not much terrain variation, so it wasn't a good hiking destination. It has thus far been our worst Texas state park camping experience and my wife has made me promise to never return to this site.
Nice park with good walking trail although some can be wet. HOWEVER...the constant chugging of the oil Derrick was too much for us. Constant headache after only one day.
