A message from students:nUniforms make us feel uncomfortable and insecure. We spend more time worrying about our insecurities in the uniforms rather than focusing on school. On Jean Days, it’s relaxing and we can give our undivided attention with no distractions or anxieties. But uniforms take away the feeling of being secure in our own bodies. Not to mention they’re uncomfortable as well. More people would show up to school if they didn’t have to wear uniforms. The parish would have better scores; less people would get in trouble for dress code violations. More people would pay attention in class. Not only that, but think about the positive ways that it could affect mental health. Felling secure and comfortable in your clothing would definitely help lots of students. Students with eating disorders who are afraid of people seeing their bodies in the uniforms would feel more content in their own appropriate clothing of choice. Students with anxiety would feel safer with their hoodies and such. Students with depression already don’t want to wake up in the mornings; they would feel a little better about the day if they were not forced to wear an unbearable uniform. Also, getting rid of uniforms would make students happier. We would be able to express ourselves, which is something we can never do at school. Food for thought.
