Pretty good experience overall! Delicious wine and the food is pretty good. The charcuterie board is beautiful. Only reason for 4 stars is the waitress was very quick to leave without asking if we’d want anything else and we had to call her over multiple times because she would disappear for a long time. Otherwise, would go back and the outside area is super cute!
Very disappointed in the service that our group received on Saturday. Our group of 8 included 4 adults and 4 kids, with the kids being all under 6. The adults ordered food and two bottles of wine. In order to entertain the kids while we ate, my mom decided to walk next door and support another local restaurant Just Cupcakes figuring it would also occupy the kids while we ate. My mom sat the cupcakes in the middle of the table until the food came and after it did, we gave the kids the cupcakes. The server came over and then told us there was a $25 outside dessert charge. The restaurant has a QR code for their menu and this was no where on the menu or posted anywhere. We asked to speak to a manager and he stated that was the policy and there was nothing he could do and seemed like he did not care at all. It’s not like we bought cupcakes for the adults as well or that the restaurant has kid friendly dessert options. So disappointed in the response of management as we frequent often but now will not again in the future because of this experience and how it felt like we were not welcomed with our children. We were also never asked by the server or management how any of our other experience was including the service or food. Myself and the 3 women with me will not be back, even with how much we love the wine and food! We will choose to continue to support local, but not at Mermaid Winery.
Each course was an experience from taste to texture to smell. The wines paired perfectly highlighting each dish. His was the first event of this kind, but we booked that night for the next one. I’d recommend specific music for the speaking portion of the evening and for the delivery to be a bit different. However, overall a perfect night. Service was great; perfect timing between courses and the servers were well versed in the meals and the wines.
Had a nice experience. Their wine flight towers are really neat - many options for flight groupings. Apps - The Spinach Artichoke Dip was very good. The Mermaid Fries were unique and tasty but probably wouldn't order them again. Meals - The Buddha Bowl was excellent - large with fresh ingredients. The pecans were delicious in it. The Mermaid Tacos were tasty, but I'm not a fan of fish tacos with flour tortillas. Corn would compliment the ingredients better. Overall, we all enjoyed the dinner.
If I'm being completely honest, I really wish that I had spent more time at the Mermaid Winery in Norfolk, Virginia when I was there. Because of our time table my Mom and I only had a couple of minutes to spend and boy did we stock up knowing it!nnI had read all about the winery before our trip and knew I wanted to stop there for gifts and to bring some home. The winery not only carries their own wine but wines from all over, but I skipped to their personal wine selection. Tucked in the heart of a city, the mini courtyard was surrounded by grape vines and a classic Norfolk Mermaid welcomes you inside. We were immediately greeted and let me tell you this guy did such a remarkable job with our short time frame that we ended up leaving with way more than necessary.nnNot only did I buy my 3 favorite wines, but I also went home with 2 of their Mermaid Winery no stem glasses! I'd been in the market for some and thought they would be perfect for this Mermaid! The winery has weekly movie nights, a delicious looking menu and a slew of events that I really wish I had had the time to experience.
