My go-to walking spot so far. Full of history. You walk past the Shelton house and can walk around fields behind it if you don't want to make the whole trek down to the bridge. Would recommend for people that love history and nature.. 100%

Took a nice walk through the park today. Lots of history at this one little area. This is where Patrick Henry hails from. He was born here on Studley Plantation and you can learn some interesting facts about our national history. Quite not spring yet so everything is still just a little drab although the Tulips are starting to bloom. I would imagine in the spring or early summer this area really comes alive. I walked about half the trail and Came Upon a small Grove that had a few headstones. They had plenty of maps out front to lead you through the park and each Historical Area was marked with a number. I can imagine bringing a little picnic and sitting out in one of the fields. It was a young mother here that had her daughter and they were walking around is very nice and peaceful a good family place. They did have a port-a-john just in case you had to go.

Definitely stop here if you're passing through checking out other tourist spots in the area. Try to come while the house is open, Saturdays and Sundays, 1 to 4 p.m., it's worth it. The volunteer on site was incredibly knowledgeable and spent a long giving my wife and me a tour of the house and the surrounding grounds.nnThe house is currently (Aug. 2019) under heavy renovation. The ultimate goal is to restore the house to how it looked in 1864 when it was briefly occupied by Union command during the Overland Campaign.

Beautiful house with a ton of history! The volunteers there did a great job telling the story of the house and what happened in the surrounding area. I am so glad we stopped by and we will be stopping by again.
