From the outside it looks like an old cabin but don't be fooled. It is cozy and welcoming on the inside. And hey, what's wrong with little cabins, right?? For beginner's night, which was free, I took my two teenagers and we were the only ones there. The minute we opened the door the atmosphere was noticable. Very friendly and peaceful and quiet. Some mild incense was in the air. There's an Arctic entrance with a place to wipe your feet. After that, there was a little entrance room with books you can borrow, malas you can purchase that are handmade by a local, a place to hang your coat and a place to set your shoes. They had a special room for meditation and practice, a small cozy space with mats and seating cushions and small benches (so comfortable for my bad knees) for comfort and posture as you meditate. We were walked through how things work and given an introduction Zen pamphlet to take home. The kids were even able to eat some cupcakes in a tiny little kitchen with an adorable hand-carved flower door! They don't always have food but they obviously do what they can to help you feel welcomed and at home. Had I had the time, I would have stayed for the offered tea. I am so glad we came out to see this center! I wish I'd known about it sooner! I can't wait to attend again in the future.
