In 1931 two pilots, Clyde Pangborn and Hugh Herndon, took a historic transpacific flight from Misawa Japan to Wenatchee Wa. The airplane was called Miss Veedom. The rumor, one of the pilots had family in Wenatchee so it only made sense to fly there. Needless to say, the flight was a success and in1981 documents were signed to became sister cities. I think it's pretty cool that both cities share the same story and both have monuments for this historic flight.
