Beautiful bird and natural foliage sanctuary with well-kept wooden paths and lookout points. It is worth the walk from the parking area near the former Lana's Hangar Cafe building, (past the locked vehicle gate) to the trailhead. Limited benches make it harder for those with mobility and endurance concerns to enjoy the full trail. I recommend setting aside up to 2 hr.s for the leisurely walker. Great for families. Yiu may want to bring a stroller for kids under 4 or a walker for kids over 64. Other good items include a hat (or umbrella), sunscreen, water bottle, camera, binoculars and of course, curiosity!
The trail is pretty but nothing to write home about. It’s a bit of a boring walk through an air field to the entrance of the trail, but once you’re there you are on a wooden path the whole time. The sign says no dogs but feel free to disregard it, no one cares. There are a couple nice spots to take pictures.
We had a great walk at the wildlife refuge. The boardwalk was sturdy with enough viewing points.nUnfortunately it was the wrong time of year to say many of the birds but we enjoyed the walk.
Quiet, out-of-the-way spot with a variety of wildlife. Look for shore birds during spring and fall migration. Check the tide tables. If the tide is out, shorebirds will likely be far out or hanging out at the nearby sewage ponds.
We paddled from Gray's Harbor City to Ned's Rock. Herons and gulls. Nowhere to stand at higher tides. It's either gravel and coarse sand on the northeast side or hard rock everywhere else. On a hot day you can jump off the Rock into the water.nMostly West winds dominate here. Winds over 12 knots can produce big enough waves to surf back to GH City
