Great place to get on the trail to Ragged Mountain or the new Round the Mountain trails. Consider going another quarter mile down the road too the new Round the Mountain trailhead for more parking.
The George's Highland Trail has many branches and this one is top notch too. The opening mile is gently sloped through shaded forest. That warm up escalates to a decently steep climb on switch backs up the west side of Ragged Mountain.nnIt's a good trip with decent payouts. Best to avoid this trail within a few days of a strong rain though.
We hit it early and had it pretty much to ourselves. Pretty rugged walking in a lot of places.
A very shady trail that can get quite steep as you climb. The climb is definitely worth it.
Great place to access Ragged Mountain and (from Ragged) Bald Mountain. The turn off 17 onto Hope comes without much warning and isn't well labeled, so be prepared. Ragged is a nice hike, whether end to end or up and back.
