One of the best free camping spots I've ever been to. Beautiful quite and not filthy. Note. Not for campers or lazy campers half mile hike to nearest campsite and no showers

Beautiful, well maintained campground! It is a short hike down a gravel road from the parking area to get to the camp grounds. They are right on the river. Perfect for fly fishing.

Understand what it is and is not: it is a primitive campground that requires a 1/4 mile hike to access (the hike out is uphill, so plan accordingly). It does not have running water or electricity. There is a pit toilet that is enclosed and under roof. All the sites have fire rings, bear hangs (please practice bear safety - if not for yourself then for other campers), and are marked. It is right on the Chatooga River - it you cannot see it you will be able to hear it. There are a number of campsites further down the path from the main cluster of sites also. There is no cost or reservation system, first come first served.nnThere is zero cell phone signal here - you will have to drive 15-20 minutes into town (at least on the Carolina side) to pick a cell signal up. Plan accordingly with your driving GPS and loved ones back home. I would classify this campground as something between back country and drive-up and camp state parks.nnBecause it is primitive and you cannot car camp, you will get a different sort of camper here. Lots of people fishing, which is excellent in this area. One night we met a through hiker finishing the 80-mile Foothills Trail. It was full the Saturday night we were here, including some college kids from nearby Clemson, but everybody was respectful and it was quite quiet actually.nnGreat location and experience, and being off the grid for a couple days was just what I needed. I will definitely be back.

My husband and I went on a week long camp here. It was a last minute decision but we’re so glad we did. The camping sites are not too close together, there are many different trails to explore and the view is amazing, along with the fishing. What’s even more amazing is the cleanliness. There’s not many places you can go anymore that will make you feel completely comfortable and happy. It’s perfect.

Decent campground, definitely gets heavy use and could use some extra help maintaining it. Privy was in good condition. Easy access from parking lot. Plenty of trails. All around good spot for an overnight.
