Smokemont Campground

Great place to camp! Quiet and you can hear the river all day! 5 minutes away from Cherokee, NC. Lots of short hikes and a historic church within walking distance.

We loved this campground and its location. Sites are close together but everyone is friendly and respectful of each others space. The staff were very friendly and setting is gorgeous. We liked going on the short hike near the creek, although it was a little tough in the beginning.nThe campground has a place to buy ice and firewood down the street, I wish we would have had time to take advantage of the horse trail rides!nBathrooms were small but clean, no shower building though.

Campground was quiet, restrooms were clean, and the sites were nice size. Lots of exploring. Absolutely loved our time here.

I've been here before. It's super nice but the covid causes issues here too. Can't just drive in and pick a spot. So here you are in the middle of no where, no reception, it's late and the phone at the back of the visitor hut doesn't work. I picked a spot, picked up the phone as instructed and dialed #4 to make a reservation and after holding 16 minutes, the reservations lady couldn't hear me. So 30 minutes wasted. 3/10/2021

Have been going here for decades. Its main draw is the proximity to the park and Cherokee. Facilities are basic. Sites are large. Loads of rvs running generators ruins the atmosphere though. Also there is a lot traffic going in and out. If you do not have a riverside spot then you will fell like you are in the middle of a forest road as cars pass on both sides of you campsite.
