Nelson’s Nantahala Hideaway Campground & Cabins

The place is for sale. It's older and had some narrow, confusing sites. Not all the electrical boxes were functional. Ladies restroom and shower were fine but the men's spent two days without to and a muddy swamp on the floor so they could for sure start cleaning them daily. However, it appears there is one couple trying to run the whole place and they were very nice. I think there place could use a make over but overall it was still a pleasant place on the mountain and the rates were reasonable (we took electric only). Given the state recreation area we normally use is closed due the pandemic, we considered ourselves lucky to have found a comfortable place.

This place was perfect, great location and their primitive camping area is awesome. It’s right by a creek, private and the scenery is outstanding. Sarah and Josh were very helpful and kind. Great area for hiking, rafting and exploring the mountains. Definitely a fun and safe place for the whole family.

This is the best campground in the gorge!!!! Sarah and Josh are the best camp hosts you could ever have. I was stranded there due to car issues and they did nothing but try to help me. They made sure I was safe and were extremely kind and caring for my well-being. The campground is clean and the bathrooms were in great condition. If you want to stay in the gorge this is the place to do it! Thank you again Josh and Sarah you guys are the best!

The managers of the campground, Sarah and Josh, truly are good people, and they do an excellent job running the place. The campground itself is pretty cool, too. I like the fire rings with the attached grate. The showers and bathrooms are nice, and it is reasonably priced as well. Also, the location is great.
