The grave of Eva Munroe, oldest marked grave in Dade County, is literally a few feet from the sidewalk, yet passersby would never notice it unless they looked for it. Eva, who was the first wife of Commodore Ralph Munroe, died of tuberculosis in 1882 and was buried on the north bank of the Miami river where they had been staying. The Commodore relocated her remains here after Charles and Isabella Peacock gave him four acres of land to induce him to move here permanently. The commodore eventually built his home a short distance south of here where it still stands and is known as The Barnacle, now a state park. The grave is on the grounds of the Coconut Grove library.
