Me and my partner were looking for something to do during the day besides lounge in the sun, and we decided to visit Barnacle State Historic Site, as part of our visit to the Coconut Grove area. It's a small, but lovely park in terms of the natural beauty alone, and was also interesting to learn about the history of the place, particularly the story of Ralph Munroe, a yacht-builder who owned the land where the site now sits. It is definitely worth spending an hour or so there if you are in the area.

This is a super neat little park. An early coconut grove house with a ton of naval history. The house is incredible and the engineering that went into it is also mind-blowing.nnThe boat shop with the crafts was my personal favorite section. The goods that are made are intricate, and the sales go back to the park.nnGreat piece of Miami history.

Nice place to take friends and eat something with a great view, museum was close so that was not the best day but in general it is a good place to now more about the area and relax

Here's some Coconut Grove history, this home built in 1891 is still standing... The grounds are beautifully maintained... Closes promptly at 5 pm, so get there by 3:30 at the latest so you have time to read all the cool stuff, and feel like you were there...

Beautiful example of the native Miami vegetation as you wind your way to the house. The importance of the historical site, the first house of Miami Dade is well explained.
