When it started in 1926, the Sacramento Zoo was a small four-acre operation caring for 40 animals. Today, it’s a 14-acre state-of-art facility caring for over 500 animals.nnConservation is very important at this zoo. One of the things they do well, and take pride in, is ensuring the animals live in spaces as close to their natural habitat as possible.nnAs you make your way through the zoo, you’ll see mammals such as lions, jaguars, giraffes, zebras, chimpanzees, and red pandas. You’ll also see many amphibians, birds, and reptiles.

We had so much fun here! My boyfriend and I celebrated our 3 year anniversary. We went on a thursday morning around 10:30AM. I think it’s best to go early so you can catch them when they’re feeding the animals. We saw pretty much all of the exhibits! We printed the map online and I think some of them were moved but for the most part it was pretty easy to follow. It took a couple hours to see everything and that’s including us stopping for a few minutes at each animal and taking pictures. We weren’t as tired as we thought we would be by the end. The gift shop had some funky colors for shirts/sweaters. I wanted to get a neutral color like black/grey but they only had dark blue. Smallest size in adults is a men’s small. They have a “feed the giraffes” experience for $5 a person at 10AM & 2PM which we missed but still got pretty close to the giraffes! We didn’t stop at the restaurant in there but we did pass by and it smelled great!

My family and I had a blast!nSeeing all the animals was so much fun. Kids really enjoyed the giraffe habitat.nGift shop was a lot pricey, bit hey it's what you expect. Wish there were more food options as the line was long and that made us decide to eat outside of the park.nBut overall a great experience, staff was friendly and helpful.

Nice zoo on the small side. Feeding the giraffes is one of the best parts of the entire zoo. I appreciate their attempts to upgrade exhibits and have young child oriented activities. Many of the animals can be tough to see, especially during the day in the summer when it's hot.nnStaff has always been helpful.
