Skinned to South Peak. Really great time with friends. No bathrooms in sight. Pack it in and out.

Beautiful trails up to many small lakes. The fishing is hit and miss in our experience but the beauty of the area makes up for it! Fall color with the Aspens is spectacular!!

If you walk in a couple miles further, you would see a multiple beautiful alpine Lakes, I highly recommend it.

The trailhead is at the end of road, with a quite large unpaved parking lot. It is close to the lakes. People are fishing and boating(non-motorized boat only) at the lake. The trailhead has an elevation of 9800 feet. If you come here from either SF or LA, your body may need some time to adjust.nnThis trail leads to a series of beautiful alpine lakes. Along the trail we have: the little and big Virginia Lake at the trailhead, Blue Lake (0.8 mile), Cooney Lake (1.2 miles), Frog Lakes (1.5 miles), Teapot Lake (2 miles), Summit Lake (4 miles). You will find an old abandoned cabin at your 1 mile mark from the trailhead. It is a dirty and run down place. Not sure people want to pay a visit or take a rest here.nnMost people will hike to the Frog lake and return ( 3 miles round trip and 550 feet elevation ). But if you are an experienced backpacker, or have a lot of energy to squander, you can challenge Summit lake ( 8 miles round trip with 2000 feet elevation ). It is definitely not for a faint heartnnDue to the high elevation, the trail is the first place to get a touch of autumn color or see some winter snow among the whole East Sierra. if you come at summer time, be sure to bring a lot of water. It is quite easy to get dehydrated. Also sun screen is a must for any outdoor activity.

A bit on the windy side yesterday (10/10) but totally worth it! The hike is a bit challenging for those of us out of shape hikers due to how steep it is.
