Call ahead and get the tour – worth it.nThis is one of the actual facilities that was manned round the clock for 30 years. You have to call ahead and get a reservation. Only 5 people to a tour group. During COVID times they are not allowed to go down into the launch room but the National Park Service Tour guide gave us a great tour of everything up to going down into the facility. Very informative and interesting. Highly recommend it to anyone in the area.
Another excellent tour stop to experience a piece of American Cold War history. This tour takes around 45 minutes, and is very informative. It gives some insight into the job of USAF airmen assigned to provide security to the 10 Minuteman II ICBM missile silos in the Delta sector. Our tour guide was National Park Ranger Megan Burger, and she really did a great job of explaining the different sections of the inside and outside of the launch control facility. The tour group size was limited to 6 people, and access to the underground launch control pod wasn't available due to the COVID-19 situation. Just another reason to come back at a later time...
Well worth it, if you can get tickets for the tour. We did and my wife and I really enjoyed it. Both former Air Force, and I worked on the Missile Systems and Launch Control Centers so I shared some stories as well as the Park Ranger, a former Launch Control Center Officer who manned the capsule.nThese are still in service to our country today, and were and remain a viable deterrent. Not all of the engineering is evident, and there are still some secrets that can't be told.
Amazing to see the former real Frontline of the cold War.nIt was an amazing Experience to come here and see.nVery nice and friendly Rangers who takes the Time to explain you all what you like to know and answer all your Questions this was great.nThank you very much on this Way and thank you very much to all the Soldiers who was serving that we can grow up in a free World.nSo i hope to come back one Day to take the phantastic Tour again and my best Wishes to all
Very good professional tour by the National Park Service. Interesting technology that helped us survive the dicey cold war. Gives a look at how real people made this happen for decades. Creepy and fascinating. Highly recommend.
