Reviews
I do not typically write reviews; however, I feel that my recent experience at Sandy Pines justifies this poor review. My family has been camping at Sandy Pines for four years, along with a large group of friends. We start there every Memorial Day weekend and end there on Columbus Day weekend. We have always looked forward to seeing staff that we have met over the years, and felt that we were well liked by those we befriended. Prior to leaving, we always book for the next year. This has been the same routine every time, which mimics the policy of most campgrounds that we stay at. Even in the past when Sandy Pines changed their computer system we were told our sites were blocked as a group for the following year...no problem.nnUnfortunately, this year a group of campers from out of state went to the office and booked all of our sites the day before we were even set to leave. I was standing in line behind them as this occurred, thinking that they were booking a different weekend. When my group tried to rebook for 2021, the lady in the office told us that the group in line before us had just booked all of our sites. Her response....sorry I cant help you, we opened booking early. She then told us to email the manager.nnObviously this was, and still is, very upsetting since we were never told of the change. When one of the members from our group emailed the manager, she stated that the staff in the office was not aware of how things work for holiday weekends. She advised that she would figure it out and contact us the following week when she returned to work. After several emails and calls went unanswered it was apparent that the problem would not be rectified, and that not responding to us is how the situation would be dealt with. I hate to believe that the reason we were ousted by this campground is political, but we were told that one of the owners did not like our Republican flags, and she was the person that opposed changing the reservations. Very unfortunate and disappointing!nnObviously after being treated in this manner we will never return to this campground, nor will we recommend staying there.
Very nice cabins. Our group rented 4 cabins and each one was different but all were perfect. Clean, fresh, super comfortable. Bath houses were maintained very well. Grounds very pretty. Beautiful pool and cute general store. I am not a camper and this place was perfect for me and my kids. Goose rocks beach is very close and so pretty. Beach parking is limited and $25 cash at the general store
Very nicely maintained campground. Very easy in and out and check in online. We were very surprised how quite the campground was all week. We would recommend to anyone. Pool was clean and very well kept. We had to make reservations and bring our own chairs due to Covid but that was actually kind of nice! We would definitely go back.
My girlfriend and I had a great time. Bathrooms are clean and well maintained. We stayed in the stargazer but it was covered with trees around so don't get carried away with the name. The property does a great job in maintaining privacy since the tents are next to each other. We went in mid September and it was very chilly but we were just given a throw blanket which made the nights very uncomfortable. We were struggling during the night and the space heater is not enough(so I would suggest to carry a blanket along with you and you should be fine). They also have a heated pool. The overall experience was nice.
Its with a heavy heart and much disappointment that our family has to write this review. Sandy Pines was the first campground we ever stayed at and it quickly became a tradition to start and end our summer adventures camping at Sandy Pines. We have faithfully reserved the same section for both Memorial Day and Columbus Day weekends. It is standard practice that before you leave for the weekend, you book for the following year. We have done this time after time and if anyone reading this is familiar with camping it is a standard process! When we went to go rebook for Columbus Day Weekend 2021 we were told our sites had been given to other people who came in right before us. Mind you, these individuals were walking around looking at our sites (we go with a group of family and friends) at this point we told them we book these sites every year. Nonetheless, they went to the office and were allowed to book our entire street (not the one they were currently on, which would be standard practice and the ethical thing to do) they came back to our site to tell us they have them next year (so nice of them...) With much shock, we thought it was just a misunderstanding (seeing we have been doing this for 4 years). After talking with staff in person, making multiple phone calls, and sending emails the only answer we have received is reservations are open to anyone to make as of August 1 2020. We do understand NEW reservations should be made, but taking sites from current customers is unheard of and unethical. Unfortunately, Sandy Pines is going to lose many loyal and local campers with this new policy they have in place. We wish things could have worked out better, but I guess we will have to move on and find other campgrounds that have more consistent booking practices and treat loyal customers with more respect!nnI would like to edit that the ONLY response we have gotten about this matter (after countless emails and phone calls) was on this public forum. I think this speaks volumes about their lack of customer service.
