The parking costs are only highlighted by the difficulty getting out of the lot- waited an hour to leave and pay! A wasted community resource. This could be a destination in itself or a pleasant and profitable place to wait. No public transit or shuttles to hotels. The flights often don't connect and you will be taking the bus back to town. Get the insurance, and spend the night on Allianze in Chicago.
The parking is very expensive, $7 per day. I recommend flying from Bloomington airport where parking is free, and where you don't have to pay first and make a big circle back to the front entrance to pick up your family after you pick up your car from the parking lot. Also, the airport is relatively far away from Champaign and not too convenient.
Very small airport but very clean. Not busy. Make sure to have transportation available ahead of time
I can't fault the airport for my terrible airline experience. However, it is small, the only way to get food is from a vending machine, and the TSA checkpoint is only open for short periods, so if you arrive early you'll be in a lounge area with not terribly comfortable couches. Older facilities, though clean to the touch are a bit dingy in appearance.
By far the worst operation I have ever had the misfortune of enduring. American Airlines will NEVER get another dollar from me.
