I came here when I was in elementary. I'm 33 now. My oldest child has been on a field trip as well. We took them Easter. Didnt get to go into the museum but will be back. We walked up the large Mound and hiked the trail that lead to the restrooms. Looked at the water and the water coming out the spigot. The campground looked nice. They also had a whole other section and beach area.

Another hidden gem. Honestly, we didn't get to hike to the mounds. With little and the hear it was too much from the parking area with a travel trailer in tow. I would recommend coming without your camper or camping at the campground on site (which looked amazing btw). I would have given it 5 stars I am sure if we could have enjoyed the hike. The museum is cool and the staff was kind and helpful.

They had a fun Easter egg scavenger hunt setup for the kiddos and the park staff were so friendly. only upset the info boards on the sites were not all readable. time for some new info stations the only reason for a star loss

Has been years since I visited. Had a great time with my mate from Netherlands sharing the oldest and largest Woodland Indian site in the southeastern United States, occupied by Indians from 350 to 750 A.D. Georgia’s oldest great temple mound, standing 57-feet high, dominates two smaller burial mounds and several ceremonial mounds. The park’s museum is built around an excavated mound, providing an unusual setting for learning who these people were and how they lived.nIt's a hidden jewel.

Great little state park. Nice trails thru the woods. Historical museum about the mounds. Our family always enjoys camping here. Camping area restrooms are in need of light repairs.
