The environment is fine but the lake is too narrow. It's just about as wide as the detention ponds of any master planned community.
Too expensive, we camped at silver falls for free. And well kept restrooms. Just out of crosbyton. Worth the trip!!!
I have been an annual pass purchaser for many years. We have enjoyed camping boating and fishing here in the past (especially on week days when it is much more peaceful). Because of Covid-19, I did not purchase a pass or visit until this week. I met a friend there with plans to camp as I had done many times. I was surprised when I was told I had to make a reservation for one of only 20 camp sites. Apparently they no longer allow camping near the bank at previously available camp sites. The currently available sites are not lakeside and is pretty much a dirt and rock field with 20 closely spaced picnic tables and fire pits.nnWhen we decided to go ahead and stay, I got on the website to make a reservation and found that all 20 sites were available. The gatekeeper informed me that we could not set up at the site until 3:00 even though none of the sites were occupied. She would not provide my camping placard until 3:00 which required an extra trip to the gate.nnIt is a true shame as there are many nice, grassy, shady sites along the bank that I have enjoyed over the years that are now off limits. I will be searching for new places with better tent sites near the water.nnThis used to be an enjoyable location for a quick getaway. I understand they are soliciting funds to repair the dam... yet they have extremely reduced their revenue stream.
This place is one of the hidden treasures in Texas. So mutch to do .Rv and tent camping available.Lovely beach areas and offroad trails.Big fish.
Went for a really nice hike behind the spillway up to a great overlook. If you come to this lake, make sure to hit this trail.
