Love living in Camp Logan with Memorial Park as my back yard!!!

Very interesting marker describing the history of Memorial Park and its origins as Camp Logan during World War I. It also describes the Houston Mutiny and Riot of 1917 that was in response to the City of Houston's Jim Crow Laws and harrasment by city police. I found it well worth a brief stop if you're in the Memorial Park/Rice Military area. It's an insightful description of a historical period that is too often forgotten.

Not much too it, but history that I didn't know about.

I'm always amazed when reminded of the military history here, however brief, and of course the Riot of 1917. The marker was rededicated this year at the centennial ceremony and graves of two well respected black soldiers were also unveiled at College Memorial Park Cemetery on W. Dallas.

Camp Logan has a much richer history than this marker implies. While this marker provides the public with at least some information of the history pre Memorial Park, there is so much more to the story that's not on the marker.
