I've camped here since I was really little. Such an amazing campground. They have individual and group sites. There's clean restrooms as well. This is where the mt.Mitchell trailhead starts. There's a 3 mile trail around the campground and another short trail to a waterfall. So peaceful with lots of activities. As with anywhere in nature there is a LEAVE NO TRACE policy so future generations of people and animals can enjoy the beauty.
Nice campground. Large pads. Plenty of space for your vehicle. The hosts are extremely nice. The lower loop trail is an easy jaunt along the river. But be careful as a few spots can be sketchy, especially when wet.
We've been camping here for some twenty years it's a beautiful area. The South Toe River runs through it which I've played in many times with my children. Only two sites have power. They do need to upgrade that and water too. So no power and no direct water but wow it's nice. It's our Happy Place!! They have much open area to expand and add Power & Water. I know folks it will change the design of the place that it's time to step up and make it happen...nI called and they said they were open so we're coming...
We had 21 boy scouts and 5 adults that rented 2 group sites. This was truly a great place to stay! The staff were great, very helpful and kind! The shower houses and restrooms were clean and nice. The boys enjoyed the playing field and especially the creek that ran beside our camp. We all had a great time.
Good clean campground that is convenient to easy and challenging hikes. Group site is great for multiple families. Grounds staff was friendly and kept a good eye on the place. Plenty for the kids to check out right in the campground. Mt. Mitchell is only a 30-40 min drive up the Parkway.
