Great short-stop with wonderful view of Fort Pierre, Missouri River And Pierre. Amazing piece of history showing French fur trappers had claimed land for France in 1743. Before the US had even declared independence.

This was such a random little find as we drove through on our way to Pierre. Really cool history and beautiful view!

Beautiful place to get a good sense of history, and a wonderful view of the river and the whole town. Can get good sunsets and sunrise views.

I was born and raised in Aberdeen, SD. As a child we made several trips to and through Pierre and Ft. Pierre, and I had the opportunity to see the Verendrye Plate several times. It was exciting to see this historical relic of French explorers and traders in the Dakotas. My memories of the area at that time also include watching the construction of the Oahe Dam, at that time, the largest rolled earth dam in the world, across the Missouri River.
