Very interesting look into North Carolina's very popular Governor and what was considered wealthy back in the day. ( think self sufficient )nWell marked buildings, nice grounds and a well illustrated museum with friendly knowledgeable staff. Restrooms and picnic tables on site. Dogs on leash allowed ( even in the museum ) and admission is free ! Take a picnic lunch and get yourself some real NC history ! We loved it.
Amazing little piece of history, wonderfully preserved/recreated! Nice little museum inside with a wonderful gift shop full of amazing books and wonderful locally crafted items! Zebulon Vance was quite the interesting man, I highly recommend you stop by!
A surprisingly great little find. The backdrop of the mountains is absolutely stunning and the small museum is actually very nicely done. The man working there the day we visited allowed our small dog to come into the museum with us, which was very appreciated. We are not from the area and knew nothing about the Vance, but it was a recommended stop on a website to see the fall leaves. The exhibits actually seemed relatively well balanced in presenting the history of the man and his politics as well as home life (including slavery.)nnThe buildings on the property are extremely well maintained and interesting to see with some original furnishings.nnBathrooms are offered on site and are also well maintained. Overall, a great stop on our way to drive some of the Blue Ridge Parkway and would definitely recommend for a short, 15-30 minute visit.
Great historical place! Good place to take the kids so they can experience history and run around. Excellent place for a family picnic.
Interesting part of our past available for folks to take a look back at what shaped this neck of the woods.
